During 2021 and 2022, the number of job vacancies increased significantly as the economy began to recover from the pandemic. The trend has since continued into 2023, and the number of vacancies has been over 100,000 during all four quarters of 2023. The seasonally adjusted numbers show a declining trend since Q1 2023, yet the level still indicates a high demand for labour.
When looking at the vacancy rate, which is the number of vacancies as a percentage of the total number of job positions, the residental care sector has the highest share. In absolute numbers, the domestic trade sector and residential care sector have the most vacancies.
Vacancy rates across Europe
According to data from Eurostat, the job vacancy rate is on a declining trend in the EU27, after having increased significantly from the middle of 2020 through 2021.
Norway’s job vacancy rate is currently higher than in Sweden, Finland and the EU27-average.
