Which countries are leading the renewable energy expansion? Data from IRENA for 2022 shows that China leads the way in all four major renewable technologies; hydropower, solar, wind and bioenergy.
China’s renewable hydropower capacity reached 368 Gigawatts in 2022, over 250 GW more than Brazil which is ranked second. In solar and wind energy, China’s capacity similarly outperforms that of the USA.
