World Bank data shows that this pattern is visible across all regions. Their latest forecasts from July 2023 estimates that no region is poised to meet or exceed its pre-pandemic economic expectations.
East Asia & Pacific: GDP estimated to be 6% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 2359 billion dollars.
Europe & Central Asia: GDP estimated to be 4% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 987 billion dollars.
Latin America & Caribbean: GDP estimated to be 4% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 283 billion dollars.
Middle East & North Africa: GDP estimated to be 2% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 85 billion dollars.
South Asia: GDP estimated to be 8% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 366 billion dollars.
Sub-Saharan Africa: GDP estimated to be 2% lower in 2025 than pre-pandemic trend, equivalent to a difference of 46 billion dollars.
