Solar to Overtake Coal by 2027

Solar photovoltaics (PV) will overtake coal as the world’s largest source of power capacity by 2027, according to new forecasts by the International Energy Agency (IEA).

The IEA expects renewable capacity combined to overtake coal as early as 2025. A rapid expansion of renewables will see the world adding as much renewable power capacity in the next 5 years as it did in the past 20 years, according to IEA’s forecasts.
