Trade Union Density Rates in OECD Countries

Data from the OECD/ICTWSS database shows that the trade union density rate (percentage of employees who are union members) was highest in the Nordic countries in 2019.

Since 2000 trade union density rates have declined in almost all OECD-countries, including in the Nordic countries (except Iceland). The average rate for the OECD was 5 percentage points lower in 2019 than in 2000.
