The World Bank: Billions of Women Lack the Same Economic Rights as Men

The World Bank “Women, Business and the Law Index 2022” shows that women worldwide on average have three-quarters of the economic rights of men, affecting an estimated 2.4 billion women worldwide in 2022. The index measures eight areas of economic participation in 190 countries, with a score of 100 denoting full legal parity. Mobility and entrepreneurship are the area with highest legal parity on average worldwide, with the lowest gender parity seen in the areas of pay and parenthood.

While the index shows that progress is being made in all regions, only 12 countries have full legal gender parity in the eight areas measured by the index.
